A conference dedicated to the growth of Salafism in the republic was held in Kazan

At the beginning of December 2010, the conference "Salafism" took place in Kazan. in Tatarstan: spread, conflict potential, countermeasures". The organizers were the Center for Eurasian and International Studies (CEMI) Kazan Federal University (KFU) and Russian Islamic University, with the support of the National Anti-Terrorism Committee and the Council RF security.

The participants of the conference expressed concern about the growth adherents of Salafism ("Wahhabism") in the Republic.

Rais Suleymanov, Deputy Head of CEMI KFU, believes that that the belief of many that Salafism in Tatarstan has "softer and tolerant forms", is not true.

Director of the Center for Studies of the Noble Quran and the Most Pure Sunnah Farid Salman is convinced that "the Salafi underground does not exist, spiritual administration is completely Salafi, and spiritual leaders, adherents of the traditional forms of Islam are only integrated into it. According to F. Salman, "Wahhabism" should be banned.

CEMI expert Yana Amelina suggested that the situation in Tatarstan will develop in the same way as in the Caucasus, i.e. Islam will be everything more radicalized.

Speakers noted that adherents of Salafism in The republic is mostly young people, support is provided by foreign centers.

Many conference participants believe that the opposition the growth of Salafism could be state support for the traditional (Hanafi form of Islam).

Y. Amelina proposed Orthodoxy as an alternative to Salafism.
