On December 8, 2010, it became known that construction of a mosque had begun in Kaliningrad. The plot was allocated to the Muslim community in 2008 .
According to the press service of the city administration, the construction site is “at a considerable distance from residential buildings and belongs to the public and business zone. The requirements of this zone allow the construction of religious facilities.”
Let us recall that Kaliningrad Muslims have been seeking permission to build a mosque since 1993. All previous options for locating the iconic building caused protests from local residents.
