On January 13, 2011, it became known that Nail Bikmaev, the imam of the cathedral mosque of Rostov-on-Don, who disappeared on December 19, 2010, was not killed. Police officers detained him in Makhachkala, having found a Makarov pistol during a personal search. A criminal case under part 1 was initiated. Art. 222 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (illegal acquisition, transfer, sale, storage, transportation or carrying of firearms).
On January 21, 2011, Nail Bikmaev was released from custody under the guarantee of his father, Mufti of the Rostov-on-Don Cathedral Mosque Jafar Bikmaev.
