Russian bankers are invited to master the “principles of Orthodox business ethics”

On January 27, 2011, in an interview with an Interfax correspondent, Pavel Shashkin, Secretary of the Economics and Ethics Patriarchal Council, summed up the results of a round table on the economic activities of the Russian Orthodox Church.

The event, which was held as part of the Christmas Readings, was attended by the Association of Russian Banks, the Association of Regional Banks of Russia, Vnesheconombank, Gazprombank, VTB, Alfabank, Interprombank, Millennium Bank, GE Money Bank ", International Development Bank, "UBI Banca" (Italy).

The round table discussed various forms of participation of religious organizations in economic life, as well as the possibility of " bringing together financial institutions to coordinate joint efforts to develop financial instruments that would be based on the principles of Orthodox economic ethics ."

According to P. Shashkin, “ the participants [of the meeting] came to the conclusion that the creation of financial instruments, taking into account the norms of Orthodox ethics, is possible. Many banks, including the leading ones, are open to this dialogue and are ready to use these tools in their activities after their proposals are approved by Patriarch Kirill .”
