The official promised to promote the construction of churches and the introduction of ORKSE in Kamchatka

On February 2, 2011, Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Kamchatka Territory Alexander Drozdov gave an interview to the diocesan publication “Our Kamchatka”. Among the most important tasks facing the region, the official mentioned the construction of churches and the introduction of the course “Fundamentals of Orthodox culture and secular ethics” in schools.

“Today we are faced with the task: to have an Orthodox church and an Orthodox priest in every settlement where Kamchatka residents live,” said A. Drozdov.

Commenting on the teaching of “Fundamentals of Orthodox Culture and Secular Ethics,” he said the following: “Today, it would probably be somewhat premature to demand from students in grades 4–5 that they become churchgoers overnight. But the introduction of the course ORK and SE (Fundamentals of Religious culture and secular ethics) is the first step."

The official believes that the first stage of introducing ORKSE in the region was successful, now “it is necessary to think about the next stages.”
