Statistics on crimes of an “extremist nature” for 2010 were announced in Moscow

On February 8, 2011, an extended meeting of the board of the Main Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the city of Moscow was held in Moscow, at which, among other things, statistics on crimes of an “extremist nature” were announced (see the certificate of the SOVA Center “ Crimes of an extremist nature ”) .

As stated by the acting the head of the department - Vadim Yakovenko - in 2010, 105 crimes of this category were committed. The official noted that this figure exceeds the figures for 2009. Let us recall that according to statistics from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation , in 2009, 69 crimes of an “extremist nature” were registered in Moscow. In addition, V. Yakovenko noted that the number of murders committed for extremist reasons has increased by 1.5 times.

Unfortunately, we cannot correlate the reported data with the data we have, because... In most of the cases of attacks we registered, law enforcement agencies did not report the exact qualifications of the criminal case initiated. In these circumstances, it is impossible to determine whether a particular crime was included in the above statistics.
