In St. Petersburg, nationalists are recognized as a social group

January 28, 2011 Vyborgsky District Court Petersburg found four anti-fascists guilty of attacking two representatives of the nationalist movement. They were convicted under paragraph "a" Part 2 Art. 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (according to the wording of the prosecutor's office, "humiliation of dignity groups of persons on the basis of belonging to any social group, publicly, with violence).

According to the prosecutor's office, the convicts attacked two representatives of the movement "Russian nationalists".

Antifascists were sentenced to suspended sentences from 6 months to 1 year and 6 months.

We do not consider it legitimate either to recognize "Russian nationalists" social group, nor use for their protection anti-extremist legislation.

The legal analyst of the Interregional Human Rights Association "AGORA" expressed his bewilderment at the verdict, candidate of legal sciences Damir Gaynutdinov: "Article 282 is intended, first of all, above all, to protect vulnerable categories of the population - various minorities (national, religious, sexual), people with disabilities, refugees, the homeless and others. No one really thinks to protect the rights of the red-haired or the freedom of the brown-eyed. In fact, the court considered the Russians nationalists is precisely such a vulnerable community that needs to be protected by means Criminal Justice".
