In the Saratov region, the prosecutor's office is deciding whether to initiate a criminal case against a policeman who illegally detained Jehovah's Witnesses

On January 20, 2011, the prosecutor of the Dukhovnitsky district of the Saratov region made a submission to the head of the Dukhovnitsky police department about the inadmissibility violations of the law. On December 14, 2010, I. Pichugin, an officer of this police department, detained two Jehovah's Witnesses engaged in preaching activities, and with by force brought them to the department. On December 15, the world court recognized this detention is illegal.

The prosecutor of the Dukhovnitsky district sent to the Investigative Committee of the UPC for of the Saratov region, a resolution to conduct an audit and resolve the issue of initiation of a criminal case against I. Pichugin under paragraph “a” part 3 of Art. 286 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (commission by an official of actions that clearly go beyond his powers, with the use of violence or with the threat of its use).
