A synagogue opened in a Moscow prison

On March 24, 2011, the opening of the synagogue took place in Moscow pre-trial detention center No. 2 (Butyrka). This is the first synagogue in Moscow pre-trial detention centers.

An office on the ground floor, located next to the mosque that was previously opened here, has been equipped as a synagogue.

As of March 2011, this pre-trial detention center contains 29 convicts and people under investigation who profess Judaism.

Within a year, the FSIN plans to open synagogues in three penitentiary institutions, in addition to the three already existing.
