April 27, 2010 St. Petersburg at the Institute of Regional Press Information and Analytical Center "SOVA" held a press conference "Application anti-extremist legislation in countering radical forms xenophobia and abuse in this opposition”. Press conference was held as part of the Human Rights Seminar of the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Sciences, St. Petersburg State University.
The speakers were the director of the SOVA Center Alexander Verkhovsky, who spoke about the work of the center as a whole, on the balance between the protection of freedom of speech and the suppression of propaganda of racism and on the application anti-extremist legislation, and employees of the center Natalia Yudina and Maria Rozalskaya, who dwelled in detail on examples of lawful and unlawful use anti-extremist legislation. The press conference was hosted by a senior researcher at the Russian Ethnographic Museum Dmitry Dubrovsky.
At the event, Sova reports were presented on problems in the field of nationalism and xenophobia, illegal anti-extremism and freedom of conscience in 2010.
