26 April 2011, Patriarch Kirill spoke to the staff and volunteers of the National Cancer Institute in Kyiv with a speech about sacrifice.
According to patriarch, " the idea of sacrifice fundamentally alien to a non-religious [modern] society ,” but was known in the Soviet era.
" Then the atheistic ideology wanted to reformat the value system, but on morality did not encroach, - he believes, - But today there is an attempt reformat the fundamental moral principles themselves.
The patriarch is convinced that " unbelieving people of the Soviet era were rudimentary Orthodox Christians - they remained in the system values laid down as a kind of code development of Orthodox peoples ”.
