On May 26, 2011, the Supreme Court of the Altai Republic held cassation hearing in the case of Alexander Kalistratov, head of the local community of Jehovah's Witnesses. The court decided to remand the case for a new trial in the same court of first instance.
The initiator of the hearings in the Supreme Court of the Republic was the prosecutor's office, which requires a review of the acquittal issued by Kalistratov in April this year.
Recall that the Gorno-Altai The city court fully acquitted Kalistratov under Part 1. Art. 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (inciting hate). He was accused of distribution of publications of the Witnesses recognized as extremist by the city court Gorno-Altaisk in October 2009.
