Patriarch Kirill asks the Federal Property Management Agency to cancel the order to transfer the property of the Zaikonospassky Monastery to “third parties”

On August 2, 2011, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus' sent head of the Federal Property Management Agency Yury Petrov a letter with a request to cancel the order on transfer of buildings included in the ensemble of the Zaikonospassky Monastery in Moscow "third parties".

In 2010, the Federal Property Management Agency secured several monastic buildings for FSUE "PromEx" and FSUE "Nauchno-issledovatelsky Center for Economic Change.

The Patriarch recalled that, according to the law "On the transfer religious organizations of religious property", may be alienated only to the property of religious organizations.

"Due to the fact that so far it has not been adopted necessary for the implementation of this law, the order of the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia on approval of the standard form of the decision of the authorized body on the transfer of property, The Russian Orthodox Church is deprived of the opportunity to send to the Federal Property Management Agency application for transfer to the ownership or gratuitous use of the Church the above property for religious purposes," the letter says.

The Patriarch believes that the Federal Property Management Agency is trying to "take advantage of transitional period and block the transfer of these buildings to the Church."

Meanwhile, the abbot of the Zaikonospassky monastery, hegumen Petr (Afanasiev) sent a similar letter to the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Yuri Seagull. In the letter, in addition to the problems mentioned in the letter of the patriarch, it is said that that the Russian State University for the Humanities registered on May 17 the right of operational management of individual buildings of the monastery.
