August 2011. Results of the month

We publish the traditional monthly review of manifestations of xenophobia and radical nationalism and opposition to them by the state in August 2011. The review is based on the materials of the daily monitoring of the SOVA Center.

In August 2011, from racist and neo-Nazi motivated attacks, one person was injured - in St. Petersburg was wounded native of Kenya.

In addition, racist incidents, as usual, were celebrating the Day of the Airborne Forces on August 2. Such incidents were recorded in less than 7 regions of the country, about 10 people were injured.

A total of 15 people have died from racist violence since the beginning of the year. people, and 80 people were injured, 7 received death threats. The incidents were recorded in 22 regions of Russia. Recall that in these statistics we do not include victims of mass brawls and victims of incidents that occurred in the regions North Caucasus.

In August, there were at least 4 acts of neo-Nazi vandalism. In particular, two notable anti-Semitic attacks took place in Kaliningrad in August. actions: a memorial plaque to the victims of the "Crystal" night" and a monument to the victims of the Holocaust. Since the beginning of the year, at least 50 acts of racist vandalism in 22 regions of the country.

In August 2011, at least 2 indictments were issued sentences in cases of racist violence in which the motive of hatred was taken into account - in the Ryazan and Tula regions. In total, 8 people were convicted in these processes, Of these, 7 people were sentenced to various terms of imprisonment, one to conditional term. Of these sentences, the most notable was the sentence in Ryazan against Nazi skinheads. from the White Inquisition Squad for several racist attacks and murder.

At least 39 indictments have been handed down since the beginning of the year convictions for racist violence that included a hate motive vs. 156 people (8 sentenced to life imprisonment, 84 to imprisonment, 50 sentenced on probation, 9 people were released from punishment, 2 were acquitted). jury June 14, 2011 Andrey (Boets) Malyugin, gang member Borovikov-Voevodina was detained on the night of August 30 in St. Petersburg on suspicion of committing two murders after release.

For xenophobic propaganda in June 2011, no less than 5 sentences against 5 people - in the Sakhalin and Sverdlovsk regions, Udmurt and the Chuvash Republics, the Krasnoyarsk Territory. In total, in 2011 in cases of racist propaganda received 50 convictions in 31 regions of the country, 50 people were convicted.

For organizing an extremist community in August 2011 one of the leaders of the organization "Northern Brotherhood" Oleg was convicted Troshkin, he was sentenced to five years in prison.   In total, two such sentences were handed down in 2011. (In the winter of 2011 it was already the leader of the Protvino branch of the DPNI was convicted, who also had article for organizing an extremist community).

In August 2011, one conviction was handed down for xenophobic vandalism - to three young people in Khabarovsk for neo-Nazi graffiti on building in the city center. In total, since the beginning of the year, 4 sentences have been handed down for vandalism, 6 people were convicted in them.

During the past month, the Federal List extremist materials was replenished three times (August 11, 19 and 25), paragraphs were included. 919-966. The list was supplemented by Nazi skinhead drawings, xenophobic materials and videos, including "Format 18" groups and from the site "Blood of the Reich", "Strategy 2020" released by Russian Blood & Honor department (authorship is attributed to Nikita Tikhonov), materials of Tatar nationalists from the Vatan organization and even popular sites www.liveinternet.ru and www.tatarlar.ru. Thus, today the list is 966 items.

In August, the Federal List of Extremist organizations, two organizations were added: Interregional Public association "Spiritual-tribal Power of Rus'", recognized as extremist decision of the Moscow Regional Court of April 5 2011, and the Tatarstan regional branch of the all-Russian patriotic movement "Russian National Unity", recognized extremist decision Supreme Court of the Republic of Tatarstan on May 21, 2003. Thus, in the list published on the official website of the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation is now 25 organizations (organizations recognized as terrorist, this list is still until not included).

In addition, in August 2011 the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation recognized legal decision to recognize an extremist interregional public organization "Movement against illegal immigration" (DPNI) and ban its activities. Thus, the decision to ban the organization entered into force, but it is not yet included in the list.
