On September 1, 2011, it became known that from August 27 in Petersburg, there are round-the-clock prayer standings on the territory of the former Mitrofanievsky cemetery, where the construction of a gas station is planned.

In 2009, this territory, despite protests public , was transferred to a residential area for the implementation of the project "Izmailovo perspective".

Opponents of the construction organized a watch and spend the night in tents to prevent construction work at the burial site.

Representatives of the public organization "Mitrofanevsky Union" applied for support to the St. Petersburg diocese, but there They said that they did not intend to interfere in the situation. Together with the defenders of the cemetery priests from other dioceses are on duty.

The issue of the boundaries of the cemetery was supposed to be resolved in court.

On September 6, 2011, a meeting of activists of the "Mitrofanevsky union" with the vice-governors of St. Petersburg and representatives of the city administration, which announced the decision to stop the construction of filling stations (permission to build a construction fence has been revoked, the fence must be dismantled).

The City Property Management Committee (KUGI) was instructed to prepare documents on the lost temples and chapels located on the territory of the cemetery, in order to further raise the issue of transfer foundations of church buildings to representatives of religious institutions.

The defenders of the cemetery decided to continue praying until until the fence is removed.

On September 12, it became known that the "Petersburg fuel company" at the request of the authorities postponed the approval of the construction gas station on the territory of the former Mitrofanievsky cemetery. Fence from the construction site has already been moved, and the final decision to change the location or the construction project is supposed to be accepted after negotiations with the city administration.
