6 September 2011 Yuri Levada Analytical Center (Levada Center) published the results poll "Nationalism in Russia", conducted on August 19-23 this year among 1,600 people aged 18 and over in 130 settlements in 45 regions of the country.
To the question "Do you feel Are you currently being hostile from people of a different nationality?” answers distributed as follows:
Often / Pretty often often - 18% (2010 - 16%; 2009 - 10%; 2008 - 12%; 2007 - 15%; 2006 - 10%; 2005 - 12%; 2004 - 14%)
Rarely / Pretty rarely - 77% (2010 - 80%; 2009 - 88%; 2008 - 84%; 2007 - 82%; 2006 - 87%; 2005 – 87%; 2004 - 85%)
To the question "Do you currently feel hostility towards people of other nationalities? the following responses were received:
Often / Quite often - 20% (2010 - 19%; 2009 city - 11%; 2008 - 10%; 2007 - 12%; 2006 - 12%; 2005 - 13%; 2004 - 17%)
Rarely / Almost never - 75% (2010 - 77%; 2009 city - 86%; 2008 - 87%; 2007 - 85%; 2006 - 86%; 2005 - 85%; 2004 - 82%)
To the question "How Do you think the number of Russians who share extreme nationalist views, in recent years has it become more or less than 5-6 years ago? respondents answered as follows:
It became more - 52% (2007 - 55%; 2006 - 47%; 2005 - 55%; 2004 - 58%)
Has become less - 14% (2007 - 10%; 2006 - 10%; 2005 - 8%; 2004 - 8%)
Left former – 21% (2007 – 25%; 2006 – 25%; 2005 – 24%; 2004 – 20%)
To the question "What in your opinion, the main cause of nationalism in Russia today?”, were received the following responses:
defiant actions, behavior of national minorities - 44% (January 2011 - 37%; 2007 - thirty%; 2006 - thirty%; 2005 – 22%; 2004 - 20%)
Bad living conditions in Russia - 21% (January 2011 - 25%; 2007 - 31%; 2006 - 30%; 2005 – 23%; 2004 - 24%)
Terrorist acts of recent years - 15% (2006 - 16%; 2005 - 33%; 2004 - 32%)
The authorities are weak and cannot cope with outbreaks of nationalism - 6% (January 2011 -7%; 2007 - 12%; 2006 - 5%; 2005 - 4%; 2004 - 8%)
National prejudices of the Russian population - 5% (January 2011 -5%; 2007 - 11%; 2006 - 5%; 2005 - 4%; 2004 - 3%)
The authorities are not want to fight nationalism, are interested in inflating it - 4% (January 2011 - 4%; 2007 - 9%; 2006 - 8%; 2005 - 5%; 2004 - 8%)
Given the figures above show a certain increase in interethnic tension in the country, because the indicators this year by the presence of a feeling of hostility felt on oneself or experienced towards others are the highest since the beginning of the surveys.
