The Guild of Experts on Religion and Law calls on believers to oppose changes to the law “On Freedom of Conscience”
October 10, 2011 Guild of Experts in Religion and Law distributed its appeal to the clergy and believers in connection with publication of the draft amendments to the law "On Freedom of Conscience and Religious associations".
The authors of the appeal call on believers to speak out against adoption of these amendments and announce their intention to collect and publish all statements believers on this topic.
"Prosecution of any religious activity without registration, increasing opportunities for arbitrariness through expertise and checks on extremism - puts Russia in the category of states that violate religious freedom, their own Constitution, and oppose themselves to international norms and standards in the field of freedom of religion or belief," the leaders Guilds.
