On October 13, 2011, the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Novosibirsk Region announced the initiation of a criminal case under Part 1 of Art. 282.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (organization of the activities of an extremist organization) against two residents of Novosibirsk. Novosibirsk residents are accused of participating in the activities of the Nujular association in the city region and distributing books by Said Nursi in Russian, not included in the Federal List of Extremist Literature.
On October 11, 2011 , searches and detentions of Muslims took place in Novosibirsk. In particular, Ilkhom Merazhov, an associate professor at the Siberian University of Consumer Cooperation and the head of two committees in the structure of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Asian Part of Russia, was detained; his apartment was searched, during which books by S. Nursi were confiscated.
Let us remind you that we do not consider either the ban on Said Nursi’s books or the ban on “Nurcular” to be legitimate.
On October 15, 2011, we learned that the case was initiated on October 11 against Merazhov I.Z. and Odilova K.O.
On October 30, 2011, information appeared that Ilkhom Merazhov appealed to the Dzerzhinsky District Court of Novosibirsk the initiation of a criminal case against him under Art. 125 Code of Criminal Procedure of the Russian Federation.
