Prot. Vsevolod Chaplin opposes the equality of religious associations before the law

November 10, 2011 at the seminar " International cooperation in the field of training specialists in the history and culture of traditional religions at space of the CIS: priorities and prospects ”, held in the Moscow State Linguistic University, prot. Vsevolod Chaplin expressed their attitude to the basic provisions of the current law "On freedom of conscience and religious associations.

Chairman of the Synodal Department for Relations between the Church and society invited the participants of the seminar to “think about how adequate modern realities the principle of equality of religious associations before the law.

According to Fr. Vsevolod, the state cannot and should not be “neutral” in relation to religion, "because society has not been neutral for a long time."

“The state and society, if only for the sake of self-preservation, but ideally - for the sake of the stable benefit of the citizens of the state and members of society - must support positive and limit negative trends in the religious and ideological sphere," he says.
