Moscow Prosecutor Sergei Kudeneyev in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta reported that every fourth high school student in Moscow justifies the activities of Nazi skinheads. The interview was published on November 23, 2011.
“ We conducted an anonymous survey of students in grades 9-11 about participation in informal youth associations. The results of the survey showed that among those surveyed, support for informals is insignificant, while a quarter of schoolchildren justify the activities of skinheads ,” said S. Kudeneyev.
The prosecutor also reported on the results of monitoring the Internet and print media for extremism. “ There are many examples when, on our initiative, the courts recognized this or that website or print publication as extremist and closed it. The number of such claims has increased two and a half times,” the prosecutor said.
As for crimes of an extremist nature, according to the department, there are 3 times fewer of them compared to the same period last year: 29 versus 87. (See the SOVA Center’s report “ On crimes of an extremist nature ”).
He also noted that recently there has been a tendency to spread the ideology of nationalists among football fans.
" It is the youth that extremist-minded individuals and activists of radical opposition movements are counting on most. Please note, during matches many young people stand with their backs to the football field. They are not interested in the game, they chant obscene chants they have memorized... Therefore, in my opinion “We need to pursue a more stringent policy to restore order among football fans ,” said the Moscow prosecutor.
