On December 6, 2011, it became known that the Federal Property Management Agency decided to transfer the former building of the Transfiguration Cathedral, occupied by the Perm Art Gallery, into the ownership of the Russian Orthodox Church.
“We plan to conclude an agreement before the new year. Before that, we will decide with the gallery management and the authorities for how long (an agreement will be concluded). The building will be transferred to the Russian Orthodox Church in the near future, and the powers of the state (in relation to the building) will cease from this moment,” diocesan secretary Andrei Litovka commented on the situation.
Let us remind you that, in accordance with federal legislation, the building was supposed to become the property of the Church by 2015, but the Perm diocese demanded that this building be transferred to it earlier. The art gallery, located in the former cathedral building for several decades, is to be moved to a new building, the construction of which has not yet begun. The regional Public Chamber supported the gallery.
