December 14, 2011 it became known about that the prosecutor's office of Levokumsky district of the Stavropol Territory found that charter of the Levokumsk regional Cossack society of the Terek Cossack troops is contrary to the Federal Law "On countering extremist activities."
The paragraph of the charter, in which the prosecutor's office found signs of extremism, says that members of the organization can only be Orthodox, as well as only Orthodox can be elected chieftains.
In the Federal Law "On countering extremist activity" states that extremist activity is "violation of the rights, freedoms and legal interests of man and citizen depending on his social, racial, national, religious or linguistic affiliation or relation to religion".
Establishing rules for admission to public organization does not violate the rights, freedoms and legitimate interests of citizens, therefore we consider the demand of the prosecutor's office illegal. Sources
