Turkish Islamic leader Fethullah Gülen and Nezavisimaya Gazeta entered into a settlement agreement

On December 19, 2011, it became known about the conclusion of a settlement agreement between the Turkish Islamic a figure, a follower of Said Nursi, Fethullah Gülen and the Russian Nezavisimaya Gazeta, against which Gülen had earlier filed a lawsuit for protection of honor, dignity and business reputation.

The reason for the lawsuit was an article in Nezavisimaya Gazeta by April 6, 2011, which talked about teaching the teachings of Gülen in schools Central Asia, while Gülen himself was accused of involvement in an extremist activities (through the organization "Nurcular"), and the schools he created - in ties with the CIA.

Representatives of the Islamic figure turned to the newspaper with a request to publish a retraction, but the journalists refused. Then F. Gulen filed to the court, demanding compensation in the amount of 2 million rubles.

During the trial, the plaintiff refused compensation.

On January 18, 2012, an official refutation of the April 6, 2011 article appeared in Nezavisimaya Gazeta.
As a reminder, we do not consider it lawful to ban Nurcular in Russia.
