A case involving xenophobic video files on the VKontakte network has been brought to court in Novgorod.
On March 2, 2012, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Novgorod Region announced the completion of the investigation of a criminal case against a 27-year-old resident of Veliky Novgorod, accused under Part 1 of Art. 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (inciting hatred or enmity, as well as humiliation of human dignity).
According to investigators, from June 2010 to February 2011, the defendant posted five xenophobic video files on his page on the vkontakte.ru network, which became available for viewing and copying by an unlimited number of users.
The criminal case with the indictment approved by the prosecutor was sent to the court for consideration on the merits.
