March 12, 2012 it became known that Russian patriotic club of Novokuznetsk sent a statement to the city administration with a request to cancel the permit issued in February for the construction of a mosque.
The statement said that "Kuzbass or Novokuznetsk are not are the place of indigenous residence of the Muslim population. In addition, the authors appeals calculated that each of the two mosques in Novokuznetsk accounted for 20 thousand Muslims, while for each of the 15 Orthodox churches in the city - 33 thousand Christians, i.e., “for religious worship in Novokuznetsk conditions are already created for the Muslim population better than for the Christian population."
Members of the Russian Patriotic Club fear that the construction of another mosque "will contribute to the formation of the Tajik Islamic enclave in Novokuznetsk”, which “will become a source of interethnic conflicts."
In this regard, the authors of the appeal ask the administration to withdraw permission to build a mosque. Sources
