In Altai, school management tried to ban Muslim students from attending classes wearing a headscarf.

On March 20, 2012 it became known that the school management named after Vasily Chatynov, the village of Kosh-Agach of the Republic of Altai was forbidden to students attend classes in Muslim headscarves. Parents of three ninth-graders applied for help to the imam of the Kosh-Agach region, Serzhan Svatov.

The Imam said that "there is no such law in our country, which bans schoolgirls from wearing the hijab,” and advised parents to demand directorate written prohibition. Then S. Swatov visited the school himself. During a conversation with representative of the administration found out that the director of the educational institution was not aware of the initiative of one of his subordinates.

As a result, an agreement was reached that the girls will continue to attend classes in headscarves. Muslim clothing is worn by about a dozen schoolgirls.
