At the end of March 2012, it became known that the director Znamensky rural school (Kaliningrad region) Vladimir Ezhikov turned to Pope Benedict XVI with a request to allocate 5 million rubles to the school as compensation for the chapel building transferred to the Roman Catholic Church, where earlier school workshops were located.
“Is it fair that children do nothing with their hands they know how to work, because they have nowhere to study, and their building is just for Catholics given away? Is the Catholic Church in poverty, so that at the expense of schoolchildren it to help?" - says the director.
Former School Principal Maria Mitrushkina does not share the opinion of V. Ezhikov. “If the workshops had not given believers, the chapel would have collapsed long ago, and even crushed someone, - she is sure. “And the machines were stolen ten years ago.”
The Znamenskaya Chapel is the only building returned Catholic Church in the Kaliningrad region. The rest of the property belonging to the Catholics, was transferred to the Russian Orthodox Church. Sources
