On April 5, 2012, Metropolitan Tikhon (Emelyanov) of Novosibirsk and Berdsk expressed his protest to the mayor of Novosibirsk regarding the holding of an exhibition of Pablo Picasso’s “Temptation” engravings, which opened in February 2012, in the city’s local history museum.
We are talking about the exhibition of 105 of 347 copies of Picasso’s engravings from the graphic cycle “Suite 347”, the main storyline of which consists of scenes of an erotic nature.
The bishop noted that “ the public [has] already appealed to the regional minister of culture ” with a request to ban the exhibition, but received no response.
The bishop's indignation also concerned the presentation of Picasso's engravings on television (“children look at all kinds of perversion”).
