Over the past month, the number of Russians who want to imprison Pussy Riot members for 7 years has increased from 46% to 47%

On May 2, 2012, the results of the latest Levada Center survey were published on the attitude of Russians to the February Pussy Riot action in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, as well as to critical materials about the Russian Orthodox Church.

The number of those who had not heard about the incident in the KhHS decreased compared to the previous survey (March 2012) from 46 to 27%. The number of people closely following developments around the group over the same period increased from 4 to 10%. 41% of respondents have heard about the action and the events around it (in March it was 30%), 22% have heard something, but do not know the essence (in March - 20%).

A possible punishment for the group members of 7 years in prison is considered adequate by 47% of respondents (46% in March). 32% (35% in March) consider such punishment to be excessive. 10% of respondents are convinced that such actions should not be prosecuted criminally, 11% found it difficult to answer.

25% of respondents explained the abundance of critical materials addressed to the Russian Orthodox Church by the church’s involvement in politics and serving the interests of the current government.

The survey was conducted on April 20-23, 2012, 1,601 people were interviewed in 130 settlements in 45 regions. Sources
