On May 18, 2012, Center “E” of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Ural Federal District, together with the Federal Security Service of Russia for the Chelyabinsk Region, reported that a local resident born in 1992 was detained in the city of Miass, Chelyabinsk Region, who was trying to make an improvised explosive device (IED).
During searches in the apartment and in a trash can near the house, investigators found explosive components and chemicals for its preparation, potent toxic substances.
According to the detainee, he planned to "place IEDs under the trade pavilion, to the owners of which he felt hatred, as to persons of a different nationality."
The Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the city of Miass, Chelyabinsk Region, initiated criminal cases under Part 3 of Article 30, Part 1 of Art. 223 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (illegal manufacture of weapons) and Part 3 of Article 234 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (illicit trafficking in potent or toxic substances for the purpose of sale).
The detainee was taken into custody.
