Runet atheists see the attack on Sergei Aslanyan as a “threat” for non-believers in Russia

June 1, 2012 Atheist Council runet issued a statement, the reason for which was the attack on journalist Sergei Aslanyan.

The members of the Atheist Council see in committed act " a consequence of irresponsible connivance of religious extremism on the part of both the Russian authorities and and a significant part of the society ." According to them, intolerance Islamists" creates "a serious a threat to all unbelieving citizens of Russia and to free-thinking in the country as a whole.”

They call on the authorities take a closer look at traditional fanatics” and protect the journalist from such attacks.
