On June 18, 2012, it became known that the Church of Scientology Moscow, Control Center for the dissemination of Dianetics and Scientology, the New Era publishing group, as well as several individuals sent complaint to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR).
The complaint filed with the ECtHR alleges a violation of Art. 6 (right to a fair trial), Art. 9 (freedom of conscience, thoughts and religion), Art. 10 (freedom of expression) and Art. 14 (prohibition of discrimination) of the European Convention on the Protection of Rights human and fundamental freedoms.
Scientologists appealed to the Strasbourg Court after 20 March 2012, the Moscow Regional Court confirmed the decision of Shchelkovsky city court (Moscow region), which left without consideration the cassation the applicants' complaints against the decision of 27 June 2011 to initiate criminal case under Part 1 of Art. 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (inciting religious hatred) according to distribution of Ron Hubbard's books.
