On June 26, 2012, the international conference "New Challenges to Freedom of Conscience in Modern Russia" took place in Moscow.
Religious scholars, historians, journalists and human rights activists took part in the conference. Among them, L.A. Andreeva, E.I. Arinin, A.I. Artemiev, S.I. Ivanenko, A.N. Leshchinsky, E.M. Miroshnikova, L.S. Simkin, M.Yu. Smirnov, V.M. Strochak, E.S. Elbakyan, I.P. Glushkova, M.A. Zherebyatiev, S.V. Ivaneev, R.A. .K.Pogasiy, A.E. Sebentsov, M.S. Sokolova. V.M. Khrul, L.M. Alekseeva, M.A. Kormilitsyna, V.N. Oivin, E.S. Pavlova. Representatives of religious organizations also made presentations.
The participants of the conference “ supported the proposals of the scientific community on the establishment of an Independent Expert Council for Religious Studies ” and adopted the “Final Document”, which contains, among other things, an assessment of Russian anti-extremist legislation.
