The decree of the President of the Russian Federation on granting chaplains a deferment from conscription into the army came into force

On July 17, 2012, the decree of the President of the Russian Federation of July 12, 2012 “On granting clergy the right to receive a deferment from conscription for military service” came into force. According to this document, 150 clergy or chaplains can receive a deferment from conscription for military service if they

• are not prohibited or restricted by state,

• have undergone or are undergoing “ special training necessary to perform the duties ofthe position of assistant commander for work with religious military personnel .”
