The Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church continued to divide dioceses and create metropolises

On July 26, 2012, a meeting of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church took place in Kyiv. A decision was made to divide several more dioceses.

From the Simbirsk diocese, the Barysh and Melekessk dioceses were separated, from the Kursk - Zheleznogorsk and Shchigrovskaya, from the Chelyabinsk - Trinity and Magnitogorsk, from the Penza - Kuznetsk and Serdobsk, from the Kemerovo - Mariinsk and Novokuznetsk.

New dioceses were united into metropolises: Simbirsk, Barysh and Melekess - into the Simbirsk metropolis; Kursk, Zheleznogrsk and Shchikrovskaya - to Kursk; Chelyabinsk, Trinity and Magnitogorsk - into Chelyabinsk, Penza, Kuznetsk and Serdobsk - into Penza, and Kemerovo, Mariinsk and Novokuznetsk became part of the Kemerovo Metropolis.
