On July 29, 2012, a picket was held in Kazan against mass arrests in cases of attempt on the life of Mufti of Tatarstan Ildus Faizov and murder his deputy Valiulla Yakupov. The organizers of the action were the Union of the Tatar youth "Azatlyk" and the leadership and parishioners of the mosque "Al-Ikhlas".
Those gathered - about 100 people - were holding posters in their hands: “The believer Muslim - against extremism and terrorism", "We will not allow a second Caucasus”, “Werewolves in uniform imitate the fight against terrorism”, “Minnikhanov, protect Muslims”, “We demand the release of innocent Muslims”, as well as the flags of “Hizb ut-Tahrir".
“Law enforcement must stop their clumsy work. The principle of "grabbing everyone" causes even more mistrust population to the police. The investigation needs to be more thorough stop these senseless searches of Muslims ,” the head of Azatlyk said.
Participants of the action signed an open appeal to the President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov. The document says that in the framework of criminal cases, it was arrested from 400 to 600 people, 200 of them were searched, often at night. The demonstrators demand the release of the detainees.
