On July 30, 2012, the Khamovnichesky Court of Moscow began consideration of the Pussy Riot criminal case on the merits. Group members Ekaterina Samutsevich, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Maria Alekhina are charged under Part 2 of Art. 213 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (hooliganism committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy based on hatred) for holding a “punk prayer” in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior.

Let us remind you that earlier the court extended the arrest of the accused until January 12, 2012.

Before the start of the hearing, the state prosecution changed the prosecutor in the case and demanded that filming and online broadcasting of the trial be prohibited.

At a hearing on August 8, Judge Marina Syrova announced that the verdict in the Pussy Riot case would be announced on August 17, 2012.
