Human rights activists are concerned about the intensification of anti-Islamic repressions in Tatarstan and Bashkortostan

Members meetings - human rights activists and experts of "Memorial", movement "For the rights of Muslims", public organization "For human rights and citizen" - call on the Russian authorities " to immediate cessation of massive violations of the law against Muslims the Volga region and the revision of anti-extremist legislation ”, “ creating opportunities for the introduction unreasonable restrictions on rights and freedoms .

According to experts, " terrorist acts committed in Kazan on July 19, 2012 and directed against the leaders of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Tatarstan, were used by law enforcement agencies as an excuse to start a large-scale repressive campaign against independent Muslims in Tatarstan, which could lead to destabilization of the situation in the Volga region ”.

Were examples of illegal detentions of Muslims in Tatarstan and Bashkortostan are given, interrogations with the use of torture, unauthorized searches, during which Islamic literature and computers were confiscated.
