Arkhangelsk: Criminal case for xenophobic materials on VKontakte

On August 6, 2012, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Arkhangelsk Region and the Nenets Autonomous Okrug announced that a criminal case had been opened under Part 2 of Art. 280 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (public calls for the implementation of extremist activities, committed using the media) and part 1 of Art. 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (actions aimed at inciting hatred in society on a national basis, committed in public).

According to investigators, from April to May 2012, an Internet user posted xenophobic photographs, drawings and a film on the VKontakte website.

The case was accepted for processing by the Primorsky Interdistrict Investigation Department of the Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Arkhangelsk Region and the Nenets Autonomous Okrug.
