Participants of the rally in Kazan appealed to the UN leadership with a request to protect Muslims from persecution

On August 5, 2012, another protest against the persecution of Muslims was held in Kazan on the square in front of the Tatar State Theater.

The rally was approved by the authorities. About 200 people took part in the action. The event was organized by the Azatlyk Tatar Youth Union and the leadership of the Al-Ikhlas mosque.

Muslims held Azatlyk flags, posters “We demand the release of innocent Muslims”, “No one will intimidate us, we fear only Allah”, “Moscow, do not escalate the situation in Tatarstan”, “We will not allow a second Caucasus”, “Werewolves in uniform imitate fight against terrorism."

During the rally, an appeal was made to the leadership of the UN and the Organization of the Islamic Conference. Muslims call on international organizations to intervene in the situation in Tatarstan, “to create a commission to clarify all the circumstances, to apply all kinds of democratic measures to influence Russia in terms of compliance with international standards for the protection of human and civil rights.”

Let us recall that the first protest against mass detentions in the cases of the assassination attempt on the Mufti of Tatarstan Ildus Fayzov andthe murder of his deputy Valiulla Yakupov took place in Kazan on July 29, 2012. A few days later, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Tatarstanturned to the prosecutor’s office with a request to check the posters and flags that Muslims held during the picket (in particular, the Hizb ut-Tahrir flags) for extremism.
