Approximately one third of those affected fell on the day of the Airborne Forces: August 2 from racist attacks by drunken paratroopers at least 5 people were injured in 4 regions of the country.
In addition, throughout August, some Orthodox activists in Moscow carried out attacks on citizens and organizations that in one way or another defended Pussy Riot.
In August, there were a number of group, and even mass conflicts involving people of different nationalities. Conflicts flared up for various reasons, but also had xenophobic overtones. The most notable of these was the collision between local residents and gypsies in the village of Krotovka Samara region and the attack on merchants at the Yuzhny market in Stavropol.
Special mention should be made of the events in the Pobeda settlement in Leningrad region: outraged by the rape of a woman, local residents do not only expelled all foreign workers from the village, but also arbitrarily caught "illegals" through the forest, beaten and handed over to the police, although the crime itself was immediately disclosed, and the culprit was found.
In total, since the beginning of the year, 12 people have died from racist violence and there have been 129 people were injured, 1 received a death threat; these events took place at 21 region of Russia.
In August, there were repeated cases manifestations of racism by football fans. So, in St. Petersburg the group Zenit ultras "Snake City Firm" beat the natives of the North Caucasus region, who were going to Moscow for the match of the Anji Makhachkala team. In Moscow on the eve of the match was posted xenophobic banner addressed to Anji fans.
In August, there were at least 15 acts of neo-Nazi vandalism in 11 regions of the country. Two-thirds of them fell on Orthodox objects (10 cases), which was associated with the announcement of the verdict on Pussy Riot on August 17th. In total, since the beginning of the year, we have recorded attacks for at least 64 facilities in 30 regions of the country.
The SOVA Center is not aware of any verdicts in cases of racist violence in which the hate motive handed down in August would have been taken into account. Since the beginning of the year, there have been at least 16 such sentences were handed down against 45 people.
Separately, we note the verdict handed down on August 8 Tver Court of Moscow to Nikolai Dvoinyakov, Vitaly Vasin, Vladimir Kirpichnikov and Grigory Bilchenko in the case of the riots on Manezhnaya Square on December 11, 2010 of the year.
