Channel 3 discussed the problem of insulting the feelings of believers

September 25, 2012 years in the program "Right to vote" (Channel 3) public figures, journalists, sociologists, political scientists, historians discussed the need to add to the criminal code of the Russian Federation of a new article punishing for insulting the feelings of believers.

Among the opponents criminal punishment for insulting religious feelings and desecration of shrines were lawyer Henry Reznik, director of the Moscow Bureau for Human Rights Alexander Brod, project manager "Snob" Nikolai Uskov, artistic director of the "School modern play "Joseph Reichelgauz. Among the supporters of tougher penalties for those who offend the feelings of believers by their actions were the journalist Maxim Shevchenko, sociologist Olga Kryshtanovskaya, Bishop Sergei Ryakhovsky and a deputy Yaroslav Nilov (LDPR).

As experts were invited Alexander Egortsev, special correspondent of Channel 3, Islamic scholar Roman Silantiev, Mufti Nafigulla Ashirov and employee of the SOVA Center Ksenia Sergazin.

Recall that the SOVA Center has always stressed the need to decriminalize humiliation a person on certain group grounds, including attitudes towards religion, appearing in Art. 282 of the Criminal Code (inciting hatred or enmity, as well as humiliation human dignity), since this offense does not represent great public danger and, consequently, he belongs more in the Code of Administrative Offenses than in of the Criminal Code (as it still is in relation to insulting religious feelings citizens - part 2 of Art. 5.26 of the Code of Administrative Offenses). Introduction to the Criminal Code of a new article, on the contrary, erects "a public insult to religious beliefs and feelings citizens" to the rank of criminal offenses, and provides for a more severe punishment than Art. 282.
