Orthodox believers in Rostov-on-Don see the rock opera “Jesus Christ Superstar” as a mockery of Christianity

On September 26, 2012, Orthodox believers in Rostov-on-Don appealed to the regional prosecutor's office with a demand to cancel the production of the rock opera "Jesus Christ Superstar" at the Rostov Regional Philharmonic.

The text of the statement stated that “ the opera is a mockery and mockery of Christianity, since it distorts the dogmas of the Christian faith and interprets the Gospel texts and events in its own way .” The statement was signed by 18 believers.

The prosecutor's office intends to conduct an investigation.

On October 3, 2012, the Minister of Culture of the Rostov Region, Alexander Rezvanov, said that " the production will take place on time without any problems ."

Let us recall that in 2009 the production of the opera was canceled in Pskov at the request of the local diocese.
