Pussy Riot's lawyers seek a stay of execution

On October 16, 2012, it became known that the defense of convicted members of the Pussy Riot group Maria Alyokhina and Nadezhda Tolokonnikova filed a petition with the Khamovnichesky Court of Moscow demanding that the execution of their sentence be postponed until their children reach 14 years of age.

The lawyers' demand is based on Art. 398 of the Code of Criminal Procedure of the Russian Federation, according to which the execution of a sentence of imprisonment can be postponed if the convicted person has young children.

Both convicted group members have young children.

On October 18, 2012, the Khamovnichesky Court of Moscow returned to the lawyers Alekhina and Tolokonnikova a petition to defer the sentence due to lack of jurisdiction. However, the defense has the right to file this petition in another court.
