On October 16, 2012, investigators from the Federal Security Service of Russia for the Altai Territory announced that they had opened a criminal case against four residents of Barnaul who wrote xenophobic appeals and drawings on houses and sidewalks.
Among the suspects are three young people under the age of 22 and one underage girl. In August 2012, this group wrote appeals on the building of the Youth Theater of Altai, as well as on the sidewalks along Dimitrova Street (near the Altai State University building) and along Socialist Avenue.
" As a result of the study, specialists from the ECC of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Altai Territory confirmed that each text contains a call for hostile actions against Russians ," the press service of the Federal Security Service for the Altai Territory reported.
Some of the inscriptions have already been removed by the services of the city administration.
A criminal case has been initiated against the violators under Part 1 of Art. 280 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (public calls for extremist activities), an investigation is underway.
