A Pussy Riot member filed a complaint in Strasbourg

October 19, 2012 defense of Pussy Riot member Ekaterina Samutsevich appealed to the European Court of Human Rights. In a complaint filed with ECtHR, indicated a violation of Samutsevich's right to freedom of expression, mentions illegal criminal prosecution, unjustified arrest, violation torture conventions.

At the moment, up to receipt by the defense of the text of the verdict of the Russian court, an initial letter has been filed, which allows take a turn to hear the case in Strasbourg. An extended complaint expected to be submitted by the end of the year.

The lawyers of Maria Alyokhina and Nadezhda Tolokonnikova also declare their intention to apply to the ECHR.

Recall that on October 10, 2012, the Moscow City Court, having considered the cassation appeal against the sentence to members of the Pussy Riot group under Part 2 of Art. 213 of the Criminal Code (hooliganism committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy motivated by hatred), commuted the sentence of Yekaterina Samutsevich to two years of probation with a two-year probationary period. The sentences of Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Maria Alyokhina were upheld - two years in prison in a penal colony.
