The President supported the idea of ​​returning to discussion of the bill on treason

November 12, 2012 at a meeting of the Council for Rights President Vladimir Putin expressed his readiness to return to the discussion of the draft law on expanding the articles of the Criminal Code on treason and espionage.

The President spoke in favor in order to avoid an overly broad interpretation of the concept of state treason in the UK.

Recall 31 October 2012, the Federation Council of the Russian Federation approved this bill and at the same time decided to send an appeal to The Supreme Court with a request to consider the issue of law enforcement practice provisions of the approved document. We also recall that this draft law, which involves the introduction of changes in Art. 275 (high treason) and 276 (espionage) of the Criminal Code and introduction to Criminal Code of the new art. 283.1 (illegal obtaining of information constituting the state secret), caused a mixed public reaction, and in the second and third readings was adopted by the State Duma with some changes.
