The ECHR accepted for consideration the complaint of Ekaterina Samutsevich

On December 8, 2012, it became known that the European Court of Human Rights accepted the complaint of Pussy Riotmember Ekaterina Samutsevich. Let us remind you that the complaint indicates a violation of Samutsevich’s right to freedom of expression, mentions illegal criminal prosecution, unjustified arrest, and violation of the torture convention.

Lawyer Irina Khrunova, representing the interests of Samutsevich, states that she also intends to prepare detailed complaints from Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Maria Alyokhina, although they will no longer be able to complain about illegal arrest, since such a complaint was filed by their lawyers earlier, but was not supported in time by the necessary documents, and filing a repeated complaint to the ECHR is impossible.

Let us recall that on October 10, 2012, the Moscow City Court, having considered a cassation appeal against the verdict of the members of the Pussy Riot group under Part 2 of Art. 213 of the Criminal Code (hooliganism committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy motivated by hatred), replaced the sentence of Ekaterina Samutsevich to two years of suspended imprisonment with a probationary period of two years. The sentences of Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Maria Alyokhina were left unchanged - two years in prison in a general regime colony.
