Orthodox activists again attacked LGBT protesters
On January 25, 2013, another protest took place near the State Duma building, timed to coincide with the consideration in the first reading of the bill banning “homosexual propaganda.”
About 30 representatives of the LGBT community took part in the event, which continued the “ Day of Kisses ”. All of them were detained by police officers as participants in an unauthorized rally.
The rally was disrupted by Orthodox activists who threw eggs at the protesters, doused them with water and brilliant green, and later beat gays and lesbians. About eight people suffered from the aggressive actions of the Orthodox, including Reedus correspondent Mikhail Sazonov.
It is not clear whether the police detained the attackers of the LGBT activists.
On the eve of the action, a text appeared on the Moscow-Third Rome website that contained direct calls for violence: “ Tomorrow they will again consider the law banning the promotion of homosexuality! Homosexuals have already announced that they will come again! Come everyone who can - we need fighters to fight first. This time we beat everyone – the men are still standing, the women’s faces are ruined! Brothers! Companions! Let us sweep away the homosexuals for the Glory of God ” [original spelling and punctuation preserved - editor’s note].
