A report from the Russian Federation on the situation with discrimination and an alternative report from Russian NGOs will be presented at the UN

On February 12, 2013, within the framework of the 82nd session of the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD), a meeting was held with non-governmental organizations on the situation in Russia. The Russian report will be considered on February 14 and 15. The next periodic report of the Russian Federation on the implementation of the Convention on elimination of all forms of racial discrimination (along with reports from a number of countries). Anti-Discrimination Center "Memorial" and Information and Analytical Center "Sova" with the participation of the International Partnership for Human Rights (IPHR) and the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) submitted an alternative report (currently only available in English).

During the last meeting, representatives of the organizations - co-authors of the report raised a number of issues, concerning discrimination in the country, including the lack of definitions of discrimination in Russian legislation, the presence of racial discrimination against migrants from Central Asia, the problems of the demolition of Roma settlements and the segregation of Roma children in schools, the situation of indigenous peoples.

The meeting was attended by members of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation. According to the OP, the situation with manifestations of discrimination in the country has improved. cases vandalism, hooliganism at football and manifestations of hatred against religious Leaders and minorities do exist, but they are often used by politicians and other groups to fueling racial tensions.

Representatives of the Association of Indigenous Peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East of the Russian Federation (RAIPON) stated that one of the main problems is the reduction of access of indigenous peoples to traditional activities, such as fishing and hunting.
